There is so much to be discovered here. Gold, gorgeous gardens, great Coffee, friendly people..surrounded by protected heritage built in the elegant Victorian times.
Itinerary
Only an hour West, we gradually climb to an altitude of around 500 meters through the Pentland Hills and past farms, lakes, dense eucalyptus forest, olive groves and fruit orchards, some of which we may be able to stop at later on to enjoy, seasonality dependent.
To complement the stunning views of this very Victorian city of Ballarat, we take a stretch and stroll with a coffee pondering scenery right across from us, the huge man-made recreational lake, Lake Wendouree.
Locals chatter with friendliness as we make our way over and across the other side, we enter the Botanical Gardens to see the extremely well kept conservatory full of colourful plants and flowers.

As we know time goes fast when we are having fun and now its time to get to the living museum that is our 1850s Sovereign Hill, for an authentic experience of life during the Australian gold rush. This re-created, open air museum built on a former gold mining site is where we take it all in; Horse drawn carriages , traditional shops and workshops, costumed staff complete with accents, historic buildings, an immersive experience and much much more! We will also have the chance to go on an underground mine tour and witness millions of dollars of gold being poured before our eyes. After this we can walk through the creative gold gift shop and if you hadn't any luck finding some yourself, a small jar can be purchased with real gold.. at a reasonable price! Also the freshly boiled raspberry drops are lollies unmatched anywhere else guaranteed.
If we have time and energy we shall roll on by some of the western districts' small ‘market garden’ village towns for a drop of the local harvest and taste some underrated wines, or to fruit stalls to taste, purchase, or pick your own. Then we head back into town in time to go straight to a recommended dinner hot spot or back to the hotel for some rest first.
