Phillip Island Nature Adventure

An abundance of Aussie wildlife awaits on a locally loved, special little island famous not only for the world’s largest colony of little blue penguins.

Itinerary

Only 90 minutes from your hotel. Departure time depends on the season due to daylight hours, as the little stars of the day cross the beach to their natural and man-made burrows nightly at sunset.

We enjoy rolling green pastures and cattle farms all round until we cross onto the 101 sq km island. Then it’s the treetop boardwalks of the fantastic Koala Conservation Centre to get eye-level with these incredibly cute native creatures.

Then it’s on to the most western tip of the island for cliff-side boardwalks with spectacular panoramic vantage points and constant waves smashing onto the island’s surrounding basalt rocks. There are sometimes little blue Penguins hanging around under the boardwalks or at the entrance to their burrows, that we sometimes see. These are usually two penguin chicks waiting patiently for the arrival and dinner delivery from the grown ups, however they look almost exactly the same. Photos can be taken here to your hearts content, but as for the Penguin Parade after sunset, this is not permitted for good reason.

Phillip Island Tour Seeing Penguins

For dinner in summer we venture to Cowes before the Penguin Parade, with ample time to enjoy the township at the island’s northern tip by the pier. Then we head to the world-famous Summerland Beach where the 32,000-strong little penguin colony comes home and, with your Penguins Plus premium beachfront tickets, you’re sure to spot many more – most of them much closer, within metres.

Dinner is afterwards in winter, getting us back into the city in time for a well-earned rest.
