Private Melbourne Bike Tour,
City to the Bay

A half day ride from the Yarra out to the bay, around 25 to 30km, with a lap of the Formula 1 circuit on the way. Your party only, with a Melbourne-born guide, in English or Mandarin.

From $985 AUD per group. Up to 7 guests.
3.5 to 4 hours. Door to door from your Melbourne accommodation.

Who is this for?

25 to 30km, on flat paths, at whatever pace your group rides. Children and older riders are welcome and often come along: the route does not change, the pace does. If someone in your group would rather not ride at all, the Melbourne Express Discovery and Melbourne in Depth Discovery tours cover the same city by car.

The ride

We collect you from your accommodation in the Mercedes-Benz and drive to the Yarra, where a local fits you to your road or hybrid city bicycle.

Then we roll out along the bike path to a famous little local cafe for an included "magic" surprise brew and a pastry. Caffeine included, of course.

From there we head for the Royal Botanic Gardens. Riding through here is distracting, in a good way, so now and then we need to get into single file. I will call it when we do.

We leave the bikes at the Shrine of Remembrance and walk up the steps. This is what I think is the second best view of the city and the Melbourne around it. The first and third come up at different points on the ride, and I will point them out.

Then a full lap of the Formula 1 circuit at Albert Park. Yes, we legally can do this, no problem.

After that we head south to St Kilda beach and pick up the Port Phillip Bay trail, out past windsurfers and the cruise ships coming in to dock at Port Melbourne, towards Brighton. The beach boxes are at the end of it.

There is also an extension and an optional stop at South Melbourne Market, time permitting. We will explain both before you book.

About Me

My name is Andy Bonello

Your guide is Andy Bonello. He was born in Melbourne, in a small town out west near the gold fields, and he has guided privately since 2015 after years of running mini bus tours before that. He studied Mandarin and taught English in Taiwan, so the Mandarin on these tours comes from having lived in it rather than from a phrasebook. Family man, keen cyclist, and serious about good coffee.

He will tell you himself that he is not the stereotypical surfing Australian, having nearly drowned proving it, but he knows exactly where the semi-pros paddle out and you will usually see a few of them on the way past.
